Meet Anisha Jambhekar, Internal Medicine Specialist

|| October 13, 2016

AJambhekar.jpgHello! I’m the newest internal medicine specialist at WVRC. I’m originally from the suburbs of Houston. When I was growing up, I always had an interest in medical sciences. My favorite classes in high school were biology and anything health-science related.

One summer, I didn’t have any major plans, and my mom encouraged me to volunteer at a local veterinary clinic. My first day there, I watched a dog being spayed, and I was hooked. I knew what I wanted to do when I grew up!

I went to Texas A&M University, and I received a bachelor’s degree in biomedical sciences in 2009 and my Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree in 2012. It was so rewarding to spend time in the company of professors, clinicians, and fellow students who were all extremely passionate about animal health.

Throughout veterinary school, I found that my favorite classes were the ones on small animal internal medicine, and I realized I had an interest in the field. This was confirmed when I was a fourth year student on clinical rotations in the teaching hospital, and I decided to pursue further education to become a specialist.

I completed my small animal rotating internship at Louisiana State University (LSU) in 2013, as well as a small animal internal medicine residency at the University of Illinois this July. During my internship and residency, I found that I had a special interest in gastrointestinal disease and immune-mediated disease (when the immune system attacks the body). Patients with diarrhea are actually fun to treat - I love GI endoscopy – and it can be very fulfilling to manage these conditions long-term.

I’ve been working at WVRC since the end of August, and it’s been a fast-paced, fun working environment! There is such a collaborative atmosphere, where are all of the departments are truly working together to provide the best patient care possible. My job is challenging, but working here at WVRC is incredibly rewarding.

Outside of work, I’ve been exploring the great outdoors in Wisconsin. I love hiking and can’t wait to get outside and enjoy the fall weather!

So, now you know a little bit about me. Most importantly, I’m looking forward to getting to know your pets if they ever need to visit me at WVRC Waukesha, as well as helping them feel their very best.
